Sweet is an inevitable part of daily food. Some like it a lot and some doesn't .Yet it goes into our body in some way or the other.
It's like a small step that creates a giant leap for mankind!

White Sugar |
Well, all of us know this. Predominantly we start our day with this in our coffee or tea and it intrudes in many things that we eat during the day.
Despite knowing that fact that it has many chemicals in it majority of the world population is still using this. When we know that it increases the risk of heart disease, can make you diabetic, can decay your tooth, can deteriorate overall health...phew the list goes on and on.
There is a short tale that my parents told me and it goes like this...people were using natural sugar for ages without any health hazards then came the white sugar and suddenly people thought the food would look attractive when white sugar is sprinkled on them! Moreover it was even sweeter and costed more as its production was less,so only rich people could afford it and it became a symbol of dignity. And that's how sugar slowly entered our plates.
Poor them who went for artificial gold when they had the real one!
and poor us who forgot the real one and are still using the artificial one.
We know one of them ,so what is the real sweet?the real sugar?
Since a very long time South Indians have been using,
- Vellam (Jaggery)
Vellam (Jaggery) |
- Karupatti (Palm Jaggery)
Karupatti (Palm Jaggery) |
- Nattu Sakkarai (Jaggery Powder)
Nattu Sakkarai (Jaggery Powder) |
- Panang kalkandu (Palm candy)
Panang Kalkandu (Palm Candy) |
People were using these natural products as sweeteners that was highly nutritious and made their body even healthier.
I would always think, how did all of a sudden all of us are falling ill for silly reasons. The reason was health and us failing to guard it.
Despite using other palm products,I strongly felt that white sugar was the initiator in destroying our health, just like how a drop of poison spoils the whole cup of milk.
A year ago, my mom and I completely kicked out white sugar from our diet and started to use Nattu Sakkarai as a permanent substitute for white sugar.
My dad made sure that we got the right one from the right person as we found adulterated products of the same. My siblings started to adapt to the change who were reluctant to accept it at first. I never thought changing one small thing would create so much impact.
Shifting towards Nattu Sakkarai!! And I happily call that as a sweet rule! ;)A sweet request for you to begin your journey towards a healthy lifestyle :)
